SAMEERA RAJA
I am Sameera Raja, the Founder and Curator of Canvas Gallery in Karachi, Pakistan. I graduated from the prestigious National College of Arts in Lahore with a degree in architecture. After my early years in architectural practice, my interests shifted towards art. In 1999, I founded Canvas Gallery in Karachi, which reshaped the country’s art market by emphasizing contemporary art and promoting Pakistani artists worldwide. Through a regular schedule of year-round exhibitions, I have made significant contributions to the global art scene through artist selection, publications, residency projects, and participation in international art events. I also share my insights on Pakistani art in talks delivered at various forums, art fairs, and institutes, both in Pakistan and abroad. I have had the privilege of serving as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee and as a Member of the Board of Governors at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi. I am currently on the Board of Vasl Artists Association and Board of Studies of SVAD (School of Visual Arts & Design) of BNU. I am also on the Advisory Committee of Asia Society, South East Asia Chapter.
